Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
It really is a good shop. The o rings in the quick connect to the fuel lines finally gave out. As we were there with one of the mechanics going over the repairs we noticed it go drip drop and freaked out on it a bit. He had tried to order new ones through their system but could not get them. He ...

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
Well, after the upper was replaced we started leaking coolant, the new lower has stopped that. The new shop, free of charge, took off the upper twice and redid the gasket trying to stop the air leak with no success. All they can figure is the new upper is faulty and not sitting flush. Our neighbor ...

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
I have thought through the craziness. Goo is not a good idea. Do you think a rubber strip like oring material covered in heat tape might be reasonable?

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
Ultimate sadness! And madness! Idle issues returned as soon as the weather turned warmer. Finally got it back into the shop (a different shop) and the lower manifold had to be addressed as well. Problem is, the upper is still sucking in air at the 'upper plenum gasket'. Their verdict is that the ...

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
Well here is the final update. We gave completely up and put it in the shop. They spent four hours on diagnostics! Final verdict...... warped intake manifold .... Don't think we would have ever been able to pin that down. Thanks all of you for your help, with everything we changed this thing is ...

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
If your booster hose coming out of the back of the upper intake keeps flying out, it's not in there correctly. That would cause a vac leak.
Is it supposed to have an O ring or something? It shook loose while on a rough road years ago and we only had it come loose a few times since, but the car ran ...

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
Will do. No time to work on it this past week. We'll try to get some and maybe a video of how it's acting this weekend. No laughing at my elbow patch jobs, the mechanic checked for air leaks all around the throttle body and they work perfectlyron350 wrote:Please post a picture of this possessed motor.

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
The hose that keeps flying out goes from the back of the engine to the brake booster and has a few other connections i believe one is cruise control. The PCV valve is new and the o ring is intact. Could it be the wrong one? The auto part store gave me the wrong belt the other day so now I am ...

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
Oh! Here's a mind boggler for you. The oil filler cap...It is sucking in air there. That's not normal at all is it? Also on a cold crank the vacuum hose on the back of the engine is blowing out, very dramatically.

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
The IAC was one of the first things we replaced. Had another diagnostic done and it's still showing the MAF circuit. The belt was a bit worn so we went ahead and replaced it and the tensioner just in case. No change. So the testing you're recommending, we need a multimeter to do these right? The ...

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
So, we changed the MAF and tried it, no difference. Changed the EGR and WOW! Definitely the source of the stalling. It runs and idles now, but it's still not perfect. It cranks fine, but then does this vroom, vroom, vroom thing until you give it some gas and THEN perfect idle... until the battery ...

Ah, I think that is the set I got from a parts store last time. The second one in the picture worked well but it cracked right at the bend again.

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
I'm not sure unplugging the MAF will do what it normally does on a S2 car since 95 L36s were MAF only. No MAP sensor on that car.
Right, no MAP on this car. I will replace the MAF first and see if that is it. Everyone that has looked at it has tried unplugging it. This last mechanic with the ...

It does not. But, one of the hot wires in the MAF is slightly discolored.

Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire
Oh, hmmm. Thanks, will check the egr pipes closer. So could the diaphragm in the booster be bad from just age? Pretty sure it's the factory part. When we can get the car to idle and press the brakes there is a small change in rpm so we thought this could be the strange something we have been missing.

Vacuum line elbows and t connector for 1995?
Where can I find these connectors? The 90° elbow into the throttle body, the T-connector into throttle body that goes to FPR and the smaller 90° going into the FPR, and the large connector from the booster into the back of the engine.
