Re: driveability troubleshooting help request
Have not had a chance to do anything yet, but went to start the car and move it out of the garage, and right now it barely idels, just severe chugg-chugg. Throttle application makes it worse, so I shut it off and have been driving the old truck until I have some time to troubleshoot more. Would ...

Re: driveability troubleshooting help request
Thanks for sharing your ideas everyone. I will try and see if I can spend some time on it this weekend, and start with a fuel filter. Maybe see what kind of fuel pressure I might be getting. I would think that if I were having any issues with a sensor of MAF, that it would probably throw a code, no ...

Hey All,
So, the latest development with the Bonneville, it's running quite poorly. But not setting off any fault codes, so I'm not sure what to make of the symptoms.
Car starts fine, idles smooth, revs nicely under no load. No strange noises.
Whne driving, I have found that the car will hesitate ...

Re: Anyone know factory security system well?
More update:
While at first everything seemed to be working great, I have noticed that lately the chime when the key is inserted, and the 'security' ligtht in the dash, have been sporadic at best. Cannot really re-create any specific scenarios when I can get either to work with regularity.
But ...

Update:
So I did look at the cable ends but did not see anything that looked out of the ordinary.
But I finally broke down and went to talk to a shop that specializes in automotive electrical repair. After a nice discussion, I felt that the guy knew what he was talking about, so I took the car to ...

Ah, that is what I was guessing, but thought I'd check to be sure. Was not aware of grounding connection there. Thanks!

I didn't peel it back very far, but will explore that option next chance I get.myfirstbonnie wrote:Did you peel back the insulation on the battery cables. They tend to corrode up under there. Also check the ground cables under the ICM and make sure they are clean and tight.
What is the "ICM" you refer to?

Anyone know factory security system well?
Hey All,
So, I've had some electrical issues with the Bonneville, and one of the latest things I've noticed, is that the "securtiy" light doesn't seem to work anymore. Last I saw it, was while driving, about a block from home, it lit up on the dash, but car continued on as if nothing was amiss. But ...

Battery cable + side info?
Hey All,
Been wanting to replace the positive batty cables on my 94, and cannot find any info or part numbers that are still valid online. However I did find a cool 2-into-1 cable end at my local parts store that will eliminate having to stack ends like the OE setup needs.
Anyone have info on parts ...

Re: 93 cigarette lighter socket came apart, what to do! glove
I had a similar problem in my '94. Had the iPhone plugged into the dash in a charger cradle, and the weight was too much, loosening the lighter socket. Cradle spun around freely, and lost electrical connection.
IN my case, I removed the dash panel and was able to work on tightening the nut/clip ...

When my balancer went bad, the noise my car made reminded me of the old air-colled VW bugs. It was embarrasing. hope you can narrow your issue dow, as mentioned, it could be a few differnt things. Good Luck!

Re: OEM Security system ?
That is an interesting idea, actually. Thinking back years ago to the first time I ever set off the horn alarm, it was at the passenger door. Unfortunately, I don't recall exactly what I did to quiet it that time, but I might have used the key in the door possibly. Thankfully THAT time it was in my ...

Hey All,
Curious if anyone is knows much about the factory security system in my '94? I've had an issue with it a couple times, that does not seem like 'normal operation'.
Story is, one of my key fobs does not reliably lock and unlock the doors. Might just be a worn out battery, but even so, I ...

Re: What Oil Filter Wrench Do You Guys Like?
I am usually going to use just my hands, or a strap type if I can't get it to turn without tools. I have a couple of the cap type left over from previous vehicles, and liked using that, depending on application and access. The cars I have now all provide decent access, so I haven't had to work very ...

Re: gauge cluster mystery
Wow, I've not heard of a starter exploding like that before. And I think pure coincidence that it had any effect on the gauges. There is noting that could tie the two components together that I can see.
I had posted on your other gauge thread, and my experience with the failing cluster was similar ...

Re: Help! I broke off the passeger mirror!
We had to replace the mirror on ours when my wife clipped the side of the garage door opening. I think between buying a new (aftermarket) mirror, and having a body shop paint and install the mirror, I spent $200 or under. The mirror came in flat black plastic, and I had the body shop not only paint ...

Re: Brake Rotors. Slotted, Drilled, Both or Plain?
:)
I do love the feel under hard braking, probably a bit more than the acceleeration, to be honest. I'm not sure if it was the combo not working together or what, but when i had the other ceramics on the stock/OE rotor, the grip just wasn't there. And the rotors ended up warping a little bit, not ...

Re: Brake Rotors. Slotted, Drilled, Both or Plain?
I've been running some slotted rotors and ceramic pads that I got via rotorwork.com on the Bonneville. I have been very pleased with their performance, and low dust output compared to some 'unknown' brand ceramics that I had installed on stock rotors at my local Midas a few years back. I'll say that ...
Re: Oil leak?
pressure sensor could definitely leak, and it would be in that area mentioned. Supposed to be pretty good access if you take the pass side wheel off, from what I've read. I was able to see mine pretty good from underneath, and it should be easy to see if it's dry or wet with oil. There are 2 ...
