Re: collapsible steering column play quick fix
I took your advice Carl and used your quick fix on my 05 SLE that appears to have the same problem. It seemed to work at first but it's back to the jarring noises again. I ordered a whole column from a junkyard in South Dakota. It only has 6000 miles on it so it should solve the problem but I do ...

Re: collapsible steering column play quick fix
I'm interested in your 'quick fix' however, how did you determine, except for the noisethat there was escessive play in the steering column? I seem to have the same complaint you had but if I grab the steering rod above the ISS and shake it, there is no play in it all all.

Front end noise
Recently, my '05 SLE has developed a light fluttering type clunk in the front end, mainly audible when I drive over a rough road with light bumps. I can feel it in the steering wheel as well as hearing it. I had the intermediate shaft replaced, the lower column bearing checked for tightness as well ...

Re: Sudden hard shifting transmission
Mine never did, runs great. The trick is to get it flushed every 30K miles and every other time, drop the pan and replace the filter.

Re: Sudden hard shifting transmission
No, No, No, relax, I had the same problem. Very simple fix. Disconnect your battery for about 10 minutes then reconnect it. That will reset the trans (computer) memory so it can relearn the codes. It'll shift as smooth as silk after that.....

Re: Option to hockey puck motor mount.
Go to Auto Zone and buy a factory style replacement mount. They are now made from urethane rubber and failures are a thing of the past. You can tell its urethane by looking at it. It's shiny......and that way you don't have to worry about vibration....

Just buy another factory style mount from Auto Zone. The new ones are now made from Urethane Rubber so no more failures. They got smart since they guarantee them for life.

Re: Marbles
And countless numbers of 3800's do it but nobody knows what that sound is. Obviously its not dangerous or detrimental to the engine but it's annoying. When they're brand new they don't do it but as the miles come on they clack to beat hell.

Marbles
Why do these 3800 engines have a sound that sounds like marbles in the engine, especially when under light acceleration? If you hold the brake and up the revolutions just a bit in DRIVE, it sounds like marbles rolling around in there. Every 3800 I ever heard does that. Does anybody know what that ...

The fix is to stay away from elbows made in CHINA...in this case...it's best to use genuine GM parts......with some RTV sealant, not too much, but just enough to wet the O-ring......

Re: Plastic elbows
My son and I did the upper and lower intake gaskets on my 2005 SLE this past summer. We replaced the bypass plastic tubes with Dorman replacement parts. Last week the larger one started leaking at the intake. That's the one that is easy to see just above the water pump. I took it apart, takes about ...

Power Brake Booster
I hear like an air 'hissing' noise every time I step on the brake pedal. This started about a week ago. I looked under the dash and localized the sound to the back of the booster in that gray bellows thingy. Researching this on the internet, seems like the booster is the culprit....2003 Black ...

Re: GXP headlight housings vs. SLE housings
Well I'm the 'Dad' here and this is all good info. I removed the headlight today that looked more like a fish bowl, heated it with a heat gun and removed the lens. Then I dried the lens and removed the stains. I carefully heated the RTV sealant or that black sticky stuff that is all over the place ...

Re: 2005 SLE Headlight Assembly
I need to replace them because they leak, they're cracked and otherwise looking kind of beat.....we already sanded them down and polished them. I just found out that the 2005 SLE although looks like a GXP, it takes standard Bonneville headlights. I'm told that the difference is that the GXP ...

2005 SLE Headlight Assembly
I'm looking for both headlight assemblies for a 2005 SLE which actually looks like a GXP and takes many of the same parts. I can't seem to find them....does anyone know where I can get them for a reasonable price?

Re: maybe the bearing??
When I got mine, I spent at least 2 days replacing all the missing fastners, bolts, clips, bumper knobs, etc. lost in car washes, etc. I'm going to check mine. I have a noise I've been chasing for months with no luck. Sounds like something rubbing or grinding. I pick it up at speeds around 35mph ...
