Just a follow-up..
I replaced the fuel pump with a Delphi unit from RA. Works great now.
Dropping the tank was not as hard as I thought it would be. The hardest part is removing the rubber fuel fill hose and vent hose as the tank is being lowered.
Also there is a rear brake line blocked by the tank ...

Re: Fuel pump troubleshooting
Try bypassing the fuel pump relay at the fuse/relay center under the RH dash. The wiring diagram is here: everything-electrical-and-electronic/topic48336.html
Thank you, this helped. The relay was clicking, proper power.

Fuel pump troubleshooting
Hi,
My 1999 SSEi failed to start today after sitting a few weeks and it seems its the fuel pump. Spraying a bit of gas in the intake gets the car to start for a second or two, so ignition is working.
I removed the fuel filter and turned the key to run, and nothing comes out of the fuel line. I cant ...

Fluid level was good, but color is dark red.
Transmission shop technician took it for a road test and said the clutch material is probably worn out.
Rebuild & labor is $3000+ ($CAD or about $2200 USD)

Sigh... yet another issue on the 99 ssei
The transmission started doing this today:

Re: 99 SSEi stumbling under load
Howdy.
Did you ever find out what the issue was? Mine's doing the same thing and I've replaced every vacuum line and sensor in this sucker.
Thanks.
Haven't had too much time between all the rain here..
resistances in the wires and coils were pretty normal.

Re: 99 SSEi stumbling under load
Hi thanks for all the great info.
The stumbling problem started after I replaced the spark plugs (about 6 months after). But the wires were replaced after the problem, but did not solve the problem.
But I replaced the fuel filter just now... no difference.
I checked the coils.. all were about 6k ...

99 SSEi stumbling under load
Hi.
My 99 SSEi is running poorly these days. It stumbles under load (climbing hills, accelerating).
Or if I rev past 3000 rpm when parked - very fast vroom, stumble, vroom, stumble.
I also got the P0442 code pop up recently (I've have not had any other codes for years)

Headlight lens compatibility
One thing I like about my 99 ssei were the nice glass headlight lenses. Well the other day I got a rock through my passenger side headlight lens. I'll be going to the salvage yard get another lens. What other models and years use the same lens? (eg: does pontiac transport use same headlight ...

3rd brake light bulb is stuck
I cant remove the bulb from the high-mount brake light socket in a 1999 ssei. Removed the socket from the trunk and detached the socket from the wiring, then I tried pushing in the bulb and turning it, but it wont budge.
Do I have to replace the whole socket/bulb as an assembly since the socket ...

Re: Code P0440 - evap system
I noticed after I replaced my shorted out evap solenoid with a new one, the radio now keeps the correct time, no matter how long the car has been parked!! weird.
Before it would lose about an hour a day. I think the shorted evap solenoid sucked power continuously.

Re: Trunk spring torsion bar broken
Hi I thought I'd update this. Instead of welding or getting new torsion bar springs, I hooked up two gas shocks and works great. Lifts the trunk lid in the air when I hit the trunk button. The shocks are fairly well concealed. One end of each gas shock connects to the hole on the trunk lid arm where ...

Trunk spring torsion bar broken
Hi, one of my 99 ssei trunk spring torsion bars broke.
How expensive are these things at the dealer? or are there other brands?
If I go to the wrecker, what other models & years have the same one as the bonneville?
thanks

Re: Code P0440 - evap system
So I took the evap purge solenoid out and tested it. It was bad. The way I could tell was that I could blow a bit of air through it and when checking the resistance on the solenoid terminals it appeared to be shorted out. I put a new one in.
For that U-shaped tube, I got a piece of vacuum tube and ...

Code P0440 - evap system
I keep getting this code when I start the car after it is parked on a hot day. Purchased a new fuel cap, cleaned the surfaces and cleared the code with the scan tool. Code came back.
Problem is I need to pass emissions test next month.

My 99 ssei suspension is still the stock original. There's about 100k miles on them.
During cornering the car will sway and lean pretty badly.
I am going to replace the sway bar links again, since they look worn out and rattle.

Change accessory serpentine belt on Supercharged engine L67
I was following the great write-up about changing the accessory belt but that was for the non-supercharged engine.
There is one tricky piece of the puzzle when working with the supercharged engine, which I learned the hard way.
So I'm just posting this for reference to others (and myself when I have ...

Hi, I have a 99 ssei with some electrical problems, mostly interior.
2 years ago my battery died and I replaced it with a Deka Intimidator AGM. Everything was working good except the radio kept losing its time.
