Re: Fuel Range on DIC

Ahh that would make sense. My mechanic did say he had it in idle for 30 mins to monitor it, and since my last drive of 60 miles the ranged had improved drastically, about 2/3 closer to where it should be. Ironically, at the time of this writing, my oil pressure gauge also just pinned itself at 120 ...

Fuel Range on DIC

I had my 05 GXP sitting for 3 weeks at the mechanic, and I noticed after I picked it up that the fuel range seems to read about 200 miles less than what it should be. I just filled it up and the range is at about 200 miles when it should be around 400 as it is normally after a fill up. Did a sensor ...

Re: Odd Overheating Issue

When the engine is cold, does it seem to get really hot, then suddenly cool, much the same as you're seeing in the heat? Could be a thermostat, although I don't know that this would be an issue on a fully warmed engine.

A properly operating cooling system is sealed and pressurized when in use ...

Good to know that it makes a big difference that the starter is protected. Thanks

Starter & Other Suggested Repairs

I've had to replace the starter on all 3 of my cars except the GXP in the last 4 months. Im approaching the 100K mile mark on my GXP, and can't help but think it's going to happen soon on it as well. I'm just curious as to how many of you and what mileage you had on your engines when your starter ...

Re: Odd Overheating Issue

Good to hear!

I got nervous today with my 05 GXP. This is my first summer with it and it always did fine until it did something I hadn't experienced before. Normally the temp holds at 200 or within 1 tick either way like yours did.

Today it was 94 degrees and I was climbing up a steep 2 mile long ...

Re: Bad Dash "RESET"Button? Another Bonnie Shimmy?

Yeah I think I'm going to try a different switch panel first like you said. Unfortunately I can't find new ones, so hopefully I won't inherit someone else's broken switch panel if I buy used on ebay. I can't even find any other DIC related parts, so that limits what I can replace also.

That compass ...

Re: Bad Dash "RESET"Button? Another Bonnie Shimmy?

So I'm a bit confused now, are the issues I'm having button related or the actual DIC related? I looked up the 5 button plate online, they look like they just send a signal to the DIC plug, and have no other function.

Again, on hot days where the interior is cooking, sometimes certain functions ...

Re: Bad Dash "RESET"Button? Another Bonnie Shimmy?

Thanks everyone. Hopefully it's just a bad reset button that gets cranky when it sits in the heat, and not a computer or module related issue.

I'll get the wheel weights checked first and foremost before I go off the deep end. Hopefully it's something as simple as that, and not the mystery shimmy ...

Bad Dash "RESET"Button? Another Bonnie Shimmy?

Does anyone else have issues with their dashboard message display "reset" button after the car sits on a hot day?

After my car sits for a few hours on a hot day, if I try to reset my AVG Fuel Economy or Fuel Used, they won't reset to 0 unless the car interior has cooled off for 20 mins or so ...

Re: Years Later, Pontiac Wrangled Me Back Again!

I recently bought an '05 GXP with 32k miles on it. The engine looks to have been well maintained and pristine. It doesn't seem to have any coolant issues so far. However, I did change the coolant and trans fluid just so that I know when it was changed, and that it was done right. Next month, I'm ...

Re: Years Later, Pontiac Wrangled Me Back Again!

As to headgasket/stud issues, 2004/5's just aren't "prone" to it. That doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. Many still do as is the case around these parts...

When we say that early N*'s were a common issue with this, we're referring to pre-2000 versions. In 2000 GM put longer studs in and ...

I'm not saying it couldn't be. But start small first. 9 times outta 10, you'll find the problem and it'll be a simple/simpler fix and NOT that ultimate issue.

When it actually starts running overly ...

Thanks! I just hope I can share a positive N* story for years to come. Based on the prior history of the one I have, perhaps it's possible.

Years Later, Pontiac Wrangled Me Back Again!

Hi Everyone
It all started with a 1980 Trans-Am, then an 81 Firebird, then an 87 Fiero SE. I had them all for many years, loved them. Took a break from Pontiac for a long time, came to find out I really missed the "Driving Excitement" , and yesterday that led me to my first Pontiac purchase in a ...
