Re: 2000 SSEi Drivability issues
Still got that bucking when doing constant speed.
I had a "bucking" at constant speed that turned out to be torque converter related. It was having trouble "deciding" when to go into overdrive and would stumble in the moment it tried to engage. The easy way to check is to get up to speed where ...

Re: Series III with aluminum UIM an improvement?
This is a website that details how to replace the gaskets, and shows what can happen to them. It is not a fun engine to work on.

Re: Series III with aluminum UIM an improvement?
Keep an eye on the gaskets on the 4.3, also. They also use the nylon LIM gaskets and have been known to cause the same problems.
REALLY?! There goes my confidence in that engine :ack: I was looking and wasn't able to see the gasket edge on that engine. Actually looking at my service records I've ...

Re: Series III with aluminum UIM an improvement?
Ah. Well, I do have an '06 Grand Prix with the Series III, and I have had ZERO problems with it. Some of them didn't come with the aluminum LIM gaskets (the GP doesn't) so I will have to change those out probably this fall. But so far, the motor is still pretty tight :)

Re: what the duck?
There was a vacuum line rubber cap that came off of mine one time, in behind the Intake Manifold. It was on a 'T' that goes to the brake booster. The cap was totally missing. Something to check.

Re: Series III with aluminum UIM an improvement?
Sorry my message was a little confusing as written. I'm not thinking about an engine swap, I'm thinking about a car swap, buying a Lucerne with the Series III (it already has the aluminum UIM of course). I was wondering if anyone knows if they are a true fix to all the problems we had with the ...

Series III with aluminum UIM an improvement?
Our Bonne has been an awesome car (after taking care of certain issues) but the miles are really getting beyond my comfort zone (sniff sniff)
We're looking at an '08 Lucerne with the Series III 3.8 and I noticed the UIM (a problem we had with the Bonne) is the aluminum casting. It also had the ...

Re: engine noise, intake vacuum related
I just got these messages tonight, wasn't on since Wednesday. Gonzo was right, o-ring was missing on the valve itself (previously I had looked for the one on the cover and it was there!). The old one must have been pitched along with the old PCV valve when I replaced it about 9 months ago.

Re: engine noise, intake vacuum related
The symptoms are classic for a pcv problem. The valve should fit pretty tightly. Is the spring there?
Yes, the spring and o-ring are there. Would would that engine noise be though, near the upper coolant elbow? The noise is only after vacuum builds up in the valve cover. Kind of a nasty sound. I ...

I had the PCV valve out, it was loose inside the canister and wasn't bound up. O-ring seemed to be in good shape.gonzo4191 wrote:on your PCV valve, the o ring is missing or not attached properly, start there

engine noise, intake vacuum related
Hi, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction here on things to check on.
My 2002 3.8L non-supercharged is making a low-pitch irratic squealing noise which sounds almost like a bearing at idle, after it runs a little while. I thought it was a water pump but the noise is coming from the ...

Re: 120psi oil pressure
I just changed mine out, it was pretty easy from underneath on ramps & a floor jack for backup. Both the one I took out and the one I put in were 27mm (1 1/16"). It would have been a piece of cake during an oil change with the filter off. A deep socket and short (2") extension also would have worked ...

I don't know about the others, but the Airtex one isn't a 30mm Hex. It's 27mm (1 1/16").

Re: 120psi oil pressure
Out of the three Rockauto sells is any of them a brand to stay away from? I need to replace mine and didn't know which one to choose, obviously spending less is preferred but if the cheaper isn't greatest I wouldn't do.

Just ordered it at Rockauto along with a 30mm deep socket which I didn't have.

Re: 120psi oil pressure
Hi all, I know this is an old post but I didn't see what it would hurt to follow up, while acknowledging the prior discussion.
If the sensor is bad wouldn't it also peg with the engine off? My pressure is pegging but only with the engine running.
I know it has the right oil and the level is good. I ...

Re: engine diagnostics, repair advice (codes listed)
That's why I was concerned that the fuel injectors were a misdiagnose (PO336, Crank position sensor). I trust they did the proper tests and attributed all these codes to fuel injector failures. I am left wondering if a reset of the codes and/or limp-home mode temporarily resolved an intermittent CPS ...

Re: engine diagnostics, repair advice (codes listed)
There are a couple of tests that they can do with a Tech II that tests the injectors. If they performed those tests, and the injectors failed, then they quite probably are bad.
Thanks Archon, the diagnostic test they should have wasn't explained to me. But they went ahead with the replacement ...

engine diagnostics, repair advice (codes listed)
Our '02 Bonne check engine light went into a blinking mode last night and the engine threw a fit of knocking and seems to have derated. The dealership has it and said the following codes showed up, which they said were Misfires and Knock sensors.
