Re: GXP wheel size question.

I would be more inclined to run the 225 or 235/50R18's in the winter and the 255/45R18's in the summer.

Of course this depends on where you live and what type of weather conditions you will encounter.

If the GrandPrix came stock with 18" wheels why not just run the OEM size tire on the ...

Re: Click when stopping, can't find a source.....

Sorry, forgot to check back in...

I don't have the TSB handy but will dig it up here soon.

As far as the update it still makes the clicking noises and frankly I am convinced that the local dealership is manned by idiots.

On the receipt I got is basically shows all the parts and from looking at ...

Re: GXP wheel size question.

The stock 235/50R18 tires on the Bonneville GXP have the following dimensions:

27.4" O.D.
9.8" section width on an 8" wheel

While the 255/45R18 will indeed fit on the stock 8" wheel you will give up .5" in O.D. which will affect ride quality.

(Tire specs can vary from one tire and one mfg to ...

Re: Lets talk GXP brakes -- and brakes in general.

Well it was time for front brakes again and while I really wanted to install EBC rotors with new pads the cost was an issue (especially at 80K miles on the car).

I had previously replaced the OEM original pads at 26K with Akebono pads and resurfaced the rotors. Needless to say I have been overly ...

Are the pans different or some other obvious thing that I could point out to him that his tech is an idiot?

I know this trans does not have a traditional dipstick but does the 4t65e?

Re: Click when stopping, can't find a source.....

Update... so the dealer says that they now can't hear the clicking sounds and can't find the tsb for the transmission.

I fax the tsb to them and they call back and say "that tsb is for the 4t80e transmission and your car ('05 gxp) has the 4t65e trans".

I am holding my tongue and cursing the fact ...

Okay... I am at 6K on the Yokohama Advan S-4's and time for first rotation. A few observations....

These things are very smooth and equally quiet!
They do not handle as good as the Nitto's when pushed.
They are quite acceptable in the rain (so far, we haven't gotten much rain yet).
If the wear I ...

Re: Click when stopping, can't find a source.....

I dropped my '05 GXP at the dealer on Tuesday to have the clicking noise in the trans repaired (scratch the previous notion that it was the brake pads causing the noise ^^^^) and to have the front hub bearings replaced as well as the clunking in the steering shaft.

Extended factory warranty is a ...

Re: My MPG is gone to crap

It's the winter blend fuel. Makes mileage go to crap.

I wanna know is how you drive your GXP where you get anything better than 21 MPG. No matter how much we baby ours, it only gets 22 max.

This was my thought, my 2005 with 65000 miles got 23-24MPG once or twice, on a long trip just freeway ...

Re: Almost time for new tires for the GXP.

Okay, the Yokohama Advan S-4's are on!

Drove about 70 miles after install through some seriously twisty mountain roads. Still too early to tell but so far I think this may turn out to be a good choice.

Very smooth and comfortable and although brand new I was able to get some heat in them and ...

Re: Click when stopping, can't find a source.....

Mine does it as well and I have attributed it to the replacement Akebono pads "walking" in the caliper ever so slightly.

I can of course be wrong so I will watch this one intently to see what others think it may be.

Re: FY: Poll on who's got the "highway shimmy"

You can get 0.00 balance with stick on weights but only if the person applying said weights knows what the hell they are doing.

If I take you to 100 shops in the region of your choice we'd be lucky to find 10 that had somebody there who knew how to properly balance a tire (Discount/America's Tire ...

Re: Almost time for new tires for the GXP.

It is tight!

As mentioned previously, they do rub on the rearward splash guards/inner fenderwell when at full lock (but only like backing out of a driveway, not on u turns). There is minimal clearance between the tire and the strut so going bigger is not an option.

I will see if I can get some ...

Re: Gear Knob came flying out

This part on my '05 has been replaced 3 times... seems to happen if you let your thumb off the button by sliding it which allows the button to "spring back" thereby breaking the tab that holds it in.

If B&M made a shifter that was not too "dragster" looking I would replace the whole thing.
