So I bought a stock radio from a buddy of mine to replace mine. I've got more than a few lights out on mine and the replacement was cheap. So now I need 5 minutes with a Tech II to get it set up... I called two dealers today and they both what about $70-$80 (1 hour) for 5 minutes of their time. I understand it's an anti-theft thing but out of all the radios on the market a stock unit has to be the least desirable radio to steal....

Theftlock is nothing but a major pain in the ass... When I replaced mine, I had Todd from Intense Racing put mine in, and we also played with the tech II for a while... That's an AWESOME tool there. You can even put the windows down with it!

mine are out as well, but a friend in Eagle Lake, MN offered to replace my lights for me.
now I just need to get off my lazy ass and remove it and ship it to him

I thought about doing the Haro fix, but I think the other radio is all set. It just pisses me off that they got to put it to you for like 5 minutes or less of time... you don't even get dirty doing it.... you can sit on your a$$ in the driver's seat and push buttons.

get to know your dealer men better...
The dealer in Mankato wants $92 for ANY hookup with the TechII
Then there is the dealer in Madelia, that I used to regularly order parts from, and even buy a drink for the guys when I see them downtown. They will hookup free of charge anytime.

i have access to a tech 2 if anyone around the area needs it, its not mine, its my works, but if i need it for a weekend I'm sure I can grab it.

Pfft. You're lucky they DID ANYTHING.
My Buick dealer charges $100 just to tell you whats wrong with the car. No hookup, just peeking under the hood.
I dont know if this is individual dealer or GM policy but it needs to change.

Is there a procedure similar to the 94-99 radios where you can bypass the theftlock? I'm not suggesting post it, but some staff know the procedure for them, must be an 00+ unlocking thing.
