ok so i have another friend with a broken car! she is 16 and just got her first car... a 1988 firebird ugh! it is gonna be a headache i can tell. so anyways the car has a new radiator, thermostat, coolant temp sensor and supposedly a new water pump. it is still running hot like almost to the redline like 250 degrees or so. the fan seems to be coming on sometimes and not other times what direction should she take with this?

um, 150 degrees isn't hot at all. You mean 250 degrees?

what engine does it have?

Um, could be a blockage in a coolant passage. Try a full system flush, with a flush product, and see if that helps. Also, try burping the system with the t-stat out.

These cars are common for having plugged catalytic converters, that will make it run hot! Another possibility is a faulty mass airflow sensor causing it to run lean making it hot! Make sure the fan is spinning in the proper direction as well. Check it out and keep us posted!

well I talked to her and they installed a new fan motor and an aftermarket wire harness and it seems to have fixed it for now as soon as it gets up to temp the fan comes on and it even runs after you shut it off for about 30 seconds

3rd gen's have to scoop up air from below due to the nose design, and if they don't have the proper deflectors underneath, things get hot fast.

well the running hot seems to have been fixed, but today i foundout it stalls while braking sometimes i was thinking vacuum leak, any thoughts?
