96SE Fuel Pipe leaking and confusion at the dealers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 96SE with a K vin.

There is a leak in the fuel pipe between the fuel filter and the (tank, pump) not sure but the connection is at the top of the tank. The pipe has two connectors on each end.

One dealer says I need the pipe and the connector part # 25613789 #12388064

Another dealer says I just need the pipe which has the connectors #25625186

Is there an after market part, these parts are exp[ensive from GM and I don't have a spare car to allow me to remove the leaking one and take it with me.

Oh by the way they both need to order the part.

Any halp of suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
James

I had a leak in the similar area just before the fuel filter on the tank end. I ending up having to replace the sending unit and did the fuel pump at the same time since mine had never been replaced. Just be careful that the fuel pump is the same model as the one that is in it now. I had to get the tank dropped twice at the dealership beacuse of the issue.

Is the gas puddling on the ground near the fuel filter from the fuel line??

Boy I hope that is not the case. Yes gas is puddling like you describe.

everything seems fine except the leaking end of the fuel pipe, not sure if it is the pipe of the male end of the fuel pump outlet.

I was able to find the fuel pipe, at a dealer for about $55

I am wondering if I need to drop the tank to do this replacement, the fuel pipe has quick connectors on each end. When I saw my car up on the hoist I could see both ends but was not sure I could get to the one above that tank to remove or replace it.

Anyone done this???

Cheers,
James
p.s. the dealer told me $200 labor for the job.

Yes the tank needs to be dropped to access it. Try to run the car low on fuel so the weight isn't bad when you drop it.
