I was originally thinking about painting my crosslace rims white to match my interior and exterior but was picturing it in my head and they seemed..well, ugly.

Then I came across a pic on BonnevillePro.com and here too I think where the guy said in the post he powder coated his. I was wondering how I can do this just like his? I love the color and shine of them and think they would look really good on my car.

Oh *dang*, I was kinda hoping for a way for me to do this myself.

Know of a way? As in something from a spray can or something. I know it sounds cheap but Im still on a small budget and to be honest it doesnt need to look 100% as good as his as long as it looks good nor does it need top be powder coated, just looking good


EDIT: Just called around town, no one around here does it anyway and the closest I found was a couple hour drive away and they want $240 plus tax plus Id have to find someone to blast them for me which will most likely bring it well over $300. Since I can find a set of new rims for that price or a little bit higher Id rather go a cheaper route as mentioned above.

Blasting the factory rim coating is no easy task. Curt Martin could tell you...he took his in to have them blasted, they called him back after they tried to do ONE...their most abrasive medium wouldn't even do it. I've used aircraft stripper to do mine before and it did the job after about 3 applications, but there will still be a lot of scrubbing and sanding to do.

As far as paint goes, Duplicolor and SEM make paints specific to wheels that are OTC. SEM of course is hellaspensive, but will last a long time. Duplicolor won't last as long, but still looks nice if done right and so long as you clean the wheels regularly with an all-wheel cleaner, the finish should last long enough.

Aircraft stripper...you can find it at Autozone or Advance. It's meant to strip paint off of aircraft.
OTC = Over The Counter
SEM - Brand name of a paint. Very good paint.

Good looking and cheap usually don't go together.
In the case of auto cosmetics, you get what you pay for.

$10 a can isnt TOO bad, more than what I wanted to pay but extremely cheaper than a pro job so its doable. Thanks again

There was a guy on the LeSabre boards that painted a set of rims like that with a rattle can. He eventually sold them though.... but thats actually the exact thing that I plan on doing with mine.

Basically, lots of elbow grease and sandpaper.

The LeSabre looks nice with those wheels, but I personally prefer the full polished lip myself. Yea, tons more work, but I think the look is worth it.

Yep, and I have 16x8 First/Pre Gen GP X-laces, not stock Bonnie ones.
