The wife needs a new car with four doors and we're looking at Bonnevilles and Grands Prix (I think that's the proper plural). Anyway, we found a 2004 GT that's really clean in and out and fairly low miles (67k) but I really don't know much about the cars. I know I like the motors...GM's 3.8 is pretty grunty and gets an easy 30mpg on the highway all day long and they sound straight badass with a free intake....man that engine knows how to breath...but the rest of the car is alien. What's the difference between the GT and the other trims? I know the GTP (if it was made in that era) is the supercharged version but that's all I got. Anyone here own one or know of any common quirks?

Dad has an gold 04 GT. the Series III (in the 04+ GP's) has the aluminum upper intake, so no problem there. remove the dexcool and you should be good to go. didn't really have any problems, only stalling due to dirty throttle body and the powers-teering hose blew.

The L26 (NA) and L32 (SC) are both drive by wire. This makes for a small lag in throttle response over the normal cable driven throttle bodies of the past.
My roommate has a burnt orange 04 GP GT, and loves it dearly. No major problems so far, but I can't convince her to change out the DEX for the green stuff. She did have a leaky heater core that got the floor wet, but the dealer fixed that for free.

I had an 04 GPGT and loved it. I liked the way it handled and rode, i just didnt like how they cut the backseat down, hard when you are constantly hauling folks around and are 6'2 but overall i really did enjoy the car. Had it for 2 years and never had a single problem with it, the only thing i didnt like was that it did have a lil bit of lag in response on the throttle vs. my moms 97 due to what was said above but other than that, it got great mileage and ran very well!
