Hey All,

I'm preordering some A/C parts for my 2001 SSei. The old compressor is 'knocking' but the system still puts out cool air but I want to replace the compressor before it 'blows' to hopefully prevent any metal shavings getting into the system.

So, I'm gathering parts (Compressor, Orifice Tube, accumulator/dryer, condenser, Suction and Discharge Hose Assemblies) but haven't disassembled the system yet. I notice that 3 different Orifice tubes are listed in the parts houses....(White, White/Yellow, Black/Red).

Does anyone know which color Orifice Tube came standard? Also is there anything else that I should replace?

The original GM (1530973) is white/tan, but the cheap white ones work just the same.

Here's a question for you if you have time. I'm guessing you have experience in the area.

Since the compressor hasn't 'blown' yet can I get away with not replacing the condenser and evaporator? I figure I'll replace the lines simply because they're 24 years old and those rubber lines don't last forever.

Never seen a line failure, ever. I wouldn't worry about the evaporator because of the hassle involved. I would replace the condenser if you even have the slightest concern because it is pretty easy to replace.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking the rubber in the lines might deuterate over time and also, if there is any 'gunk' in the system, that it might be hard to backflush the lines with the muffler looking things up by the condenser. and that it might just be easier to replace them.... But I'm always open to not spending more than I have to!
