92 Low Beams Went Out

My low beams quit tonight. Brights work, as does everything else.

I went through fuse diagrams I posted lotsa years ago and I only see one headlight fuse and it doesn't seem to be labeled high beam or low beam.

Do the low beams have their own fuse or a relay?

I did replace the headlight switch 15 or so years ago. So maybe it's not the switch.

I've burnt up three headlight switches. You might want to pull it just to see if anything is melted at the connector.

I can dig up my 95 FSM paper copy probably in the next week or so. I would think it's the same or similar.

Hmm. They worked intermittently this morning.

From my '92 CSM

Since the high beams do come on, I'd start at the connector for the adaptive lamp monitor and work the problem from there. Looks like working high beams rules out the headlamp switch in this case.

Tbh, I don't know where that ALM is. The dimmer switch is easy to check though. I had to relocate it out of the dash ages ago when the linkage from the turn signal stalk broke inside the column

I took out the dimmer switch and multimeter'ed it. It seemed good, but with the issue being intermittent, who knows.

The FSM shows the low beams don't share a ground. I don't think the ALM can make headlights work or not work.

Here's a pic of the fsm page. Looks like somewhere along the dimmer switch tan wire, to connector C100 in the "left hand side of the dash" somewhere, from there to the right hand low beam, there is an issue.

So far it hasn't repeated since I R&Rd the dimmer switch. We'll see, I guess. Or maybe I won't see.

Issue came back today. I put the brights on, then back to dim and they came on. I'm going to try replacing the dimmer switch.

I let it sit for a while with the headlights on and they never even flickered. I went ahead and replaced the dimmer switch anyway with a toggle switch that is nestled in a seam in the center console. It's cleaner and easier to reach now. Hopefully it was the issue. I'll find out at some point if it didn't work.

It lasted about a 20 minute drive. Turned them off for a few minutes and then they worked again. Not sure what to try next.

I ran new power wires from the switch to the bulb connectors today. Should be good to go.
