So i my bonneville requires alot of work and time to fix the piston slap,
so im considering buying a 2007 grand prix i have found. The grand prix requires a tune up to pass emissions and a sway link
and wipers to pass safety with low mileage (103000kms)
Keeping it with pontiac though!!

Go for it. My 04 Grand Prix is literally the best car I've ever owned as far as reliability. I drive it pretty hard and it hasn't let me down badly. And if something does break it can usually be fixed quickly.

Turns out the car burned coolant, and was driven on a dry radiator.

3800s don't have piston slap issues, is yours making some bad noises?

Bummer.
Thanks for reporting back on the issue.
The coolant often ends up in the crankcase and the bearings go bad very shortly thereafter.

Purchased a 2008 pontiac grand prix, 76000 kms on the engine, not a spec of rust (never winter driven),
rear seats have never been sat in!!
Time to fix the bonneville in my free time.

Your Bonneville or the other Grand Prix you were going to buy burned coolant?

Wow, that's nice low mileage.
Sounds like a sweet new ride.
Be aware that, if it has the 6 cylinder engine, it is susceptible to the exact same issue that caused your Bonneville's 3.8L engine to fail---a failure of the lower intake manifold gaskets and/or the intake plenum.
Once these are replaced, the car should be be very dependable.
The intake plenum and lower intake manifold gaskets are a known issue and GM settled a class action lawsuit because these regularly failed.
If the car has the newer metal lower intake gaskets, then the LIM gaskets should last.
The plenum may not.
This is one of my favorite pages about LIM failure signs/symptoms

Good thing you didn't buy the other one.
Hope you've read my previous post, if your new GP has a 6 cylinder.

Most likely giving the grand prix to my brother, and possibly buying a G8!
Looking at a g8 with just over 100k kms, looks decently clean, but its a 15 hour drive away from where i live
