Last fall the check engine light illuminated in my 1999 Olds 88 with (now) 185,000 miles. The most concerning was P1811 max adaptive long shift. I cleared that one out with the Transgo shift kit band aid. The Olds was almost due for a pan drop and trans filters replacement so I replaced the springs in the accumulator at the same time. The other code and the check engine light is still there, P0446 evap emissions.
The friendly clerk at AutoZone priced a canister purge valve at $19.99. Were does that part go? Will it clear that code or do I have more diagnosing to do?

hi, not sure of part placement on your car - my 2000 ssei has it near drivers rear wheel
you can check the wiring to the valve when you find it.

I knew better then to throw the part the Autozone clerk suggested at the car.
My car was about 15k miles away from needing a tuneup, so I installed new plugs and wires. One of the plugs was gapped at .020. The rest of them were .060. All of the plugs looked normal for having 85k miles on them.
I can only hope it didn't misfire too bad in the improperly gapped chamber while I ignored the SES. The plug was in the back head, so I probably pressed and twisted the plug into the head while I was blinding guessing where the hole was.
After the tuneup, the SES went away.

Glad you got the issue resolved.
Thanks for reporting back.
If you didn't push the car hard, things are likely to be OK.
FWIW, the Purge valve is in the engine compartment.
I suspect that 96 SSEi is thinking of the canister vent valve.
