So, wide spectrum here, but the fans in my vehicle do absolutely nothing. The belt from the main pulley to the a/c pump is connected, but literally nothing happens in the car, not even basic fan function to Defoe the windscreen.

Any advice on where to start? I have never worked on a vehicle even remotely like this....

You might have 2 different problems.

Does the blower fan work when you turn on the heat?

I doubt that an A/C system failure would keep the fan from blowing.
The A/C compressor itself will not run if the refrigerant has leaked out of the system.
There are switches on the A/C system to detect low system pressure in order to prevent compressor damage.

In addition to the switch and blower motor, your Bonneville has a fuse and a blower motor resistor in the circuit .
The resistor can go bad but you need a test light to check for power at various points in the circuit.
I'd first check for power into and out of the 25 watt fuse labeled H-A/C.
If that isn't bad, then check for power at the blower motor itself on the orange wire.
If no power there, check for power at the resistor.

If you go to Autozone.com and sign up for a free account, they will give you access to the schematics that they have online, which includes your car.
You can also find the schematic by googling schematic 79 Bonneville blower

Brilliant, thanks. There isn't blow at all of any description, so I'll check what you suggest. thanks!
