My daughter went to the store this afternoon in her Impala LS (3800) and when she went back our half hour later the car would not start...called me..... I pressed the shader valve on the fuel line and fuel streams out quickly...... then I put my spark tester on the #1 plug and it had spark...... still won't start (it was running just fine 30 minutes earlier)...... I swapped out an ignition module just to "See"......still no luck...... what else...... Answer me this.... IF a Crank Shaft Position Sensor goes bad will it still produce a spark (just at the wrong time)...... I had an issue like this once before....seems it was sparking but would not start? Thanks for any help?

Well, even though I pressed the shader valve and fuel spirted out....... I just went out had my daughter turn the key as I laid in the trunk..... NO sound from the fuel pump......... Hmmm....may be the problem.

hi, please be sure to check fuses/relay for pump
also, the crank position sensor indirectly has an effect on injector pulse
you can check it here.................
http://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/gm/3.8 ... k-sensor-1
I just looked over the page and it says this............
Taking all of the above into account, the most important thing to remember is that if you get spark from any spark plug wire... the crank sensor is working and the test in this article won't help you.
please post back with your progress and good luck!

Well the problem is fixed...replaced the Fuel Pump and it runs beautifully..... so glad GM started making an access panel in the trunk so the tank doesn't have to be removed..... I did the job in under a 1/2 hour..... AND with a redone hold down ring....... beating the daylights out of the old ring is a thing of the past.

Amen to that.
Dropping the tank was the worst part, after 20 years of road salts.
Glad you got it fixed.
Thanks for reporting back on the remedy.
