2000 Bonneville AC Compressor question...

Hello all, well I have a pretty bad sound coming out of my 2000 Bonneville. I was told it was probably my Power Steering pump. So I changed it out today. The noise is still there. So changed it for no reason. I am sure after further investigation it is the AC Compressor Clutch Bearing. It is loud and changes sound when AC is kicked on. Now, is it possably to change out this clutch bearing or entire clutch without removing the compressor. Trying to elimate having to take the car into the shop to charge the system again. The AC works great so the compressor itself works good...if you guys have any suggestions on what to do to make this job a little easier I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance....

what i did was went to the scrap and pulled a basically new compressor out, i dont know if its worth the trouble to only remove the clutch

but thats just my opinion

hi, if the clutch is just squealing, I would spray some lube at it to make quiet - worked on my 96

Pretty sure you can get the clutch off without removing the compressor. I did it on my P. Ave Ultra.

You may have to remove the compressor from it's mounting place, but the lines are flexible enough for you to be able to turn the compressor to the correct angle to "attack" the clutch removal. Most auto parts stores offer the necessary tools as a loaner. Like someone else said, I have sprayed WD40 on one and it was quiet until it rained and washed off the lubricant. I just kept spraying when it started making noise and drove it like that for over a year. There are probably better lubricants (check out the PB Blaster items at Home Depot) that will withstand the elements and last a long time.

Do you have at least .020”air gap between the clutch and the pulley?
