where can I get underhood label reprints?

My '84 K2500 has the RPO sticker on the fender, it's worn out and I'll never get it off the old fender without destroying it. I snapped some 41MP photos of it, it's still completly legible but faded and burnt. But I'd like to update the RPO to match some of the sillyness that I've been doing, things like LC2 (close enough!), something for the EPS, etc..

I know somebody here has done something similar, would like to know how I can do it too.

I would speak with Andrew. GM will supply a replacement emissions label (at least they did for my '04 GXP) and a few others. They would not supply me with a new Service Parts Identification label so options are limited.

Andrew can print a very good reproduction but does have some limitations with lamination so it really depends on what you want. He did all my artwork but I ended up having them printed at a shop on a 1440 DPI inkjet printer because they were able to do it on adhesive backed vinyl and laminate afterward. All this did cost me more than the vast majority of people are willing to pay.

Is the artwork something that is being created with photoshop or something similar then? I think that's something I can manage.

When you got things printed, was the cost mainly driven by the number of pieces you made, or the size of the print? I'm curious because I might want to make more than just this label.

I know back when I used to work in signs and graphics, the majority of our cost was based on the size of the print that your needing, usually done by the square foot or square inch depending on how the print co. you choose charges. A lot of the times, if people wanted multiples of smaller items, or a few different designs printed together, I'd make a nested file (a lot of large scale print software can do this for you, or photoshop works too) so that the multiple designs can just print together, saving you money if you don't mind cutting them out yourself. But laminated adhesive vinyl can get pretty pricey quite quickly.

Andrew created mine using Adobe Illustrator. I had a total of four different decals printed with a quantity of six each. Two were for fuse boxes (front and rear) and two were Tire and Loading Information (for my Bonneville and STS). This should give you a rough idea of how much material was used. To have them printed, cut (with rounded corners) and laminated was about $100. This was printing alone (artwork was separate).

That doesn't seem like that bad of a price honestly. Is this Andrew the bonnevilles unlimited Andrew?

Also slight thread jacking but I can use my VIN to get a list of the RPO codes right?

Yes, Andrew from Bonnevilles Unlimited. I hope he won't mind me saying so, but he actually has formal training as a Graphic Artist at a professional level. Hence why his work is always so great. I won't get into the cost my particular artwork because every job takes a different amount of time to complete and cost will vary accordingly. The $100 (roughly) in printing will also vary significantly based on the shop and equipment used. Since mine was printed on a high resolution inkjet, cost was much less than screens/plates or whatever "the other" technology is. This link is to the company that printed mine (just for reference) in case any of you want to ask a local company if something similar is available in your area.

As for the VIN question, yes. Dealerships are able to print your RPO codes and descriptions from this. It's also available (by subscription) from http://www.compnine.com.
