Hello all. I was wondering if anyone can help me with a small problem I am having? I own an 04 GXP and I have a leak in what I believe is the power steering return line. There is a steel line that runs across the front of the car against what would be a side of the engine. If I move the upper radiator hose and look down its right there. The line was rubbing on the engine and over time it wore a hole in the line. So now I have fluid leaking and spraying on the engine. Can I cut out the bad spot and replace with a hose and clamps like old school days or is there to much pressure to do that? Thanks in advance for any help.

You should be fine. Rubber lines are typically used coming in/out of many power steering pumps anyway. Usually the lines don't see that much pressure. All the pressure is in the steering gear box itself where pressures can run between 200psi and 700psi. That would burst pretty much any line be it rubber or stainless.

The issue I would be concerned about, if it was against something, rubbing in the first place, are you going to address that?

Yes I saw what happened once I got under there. I had to replace the oil pressure sending unit so while I was looking at the return line I noticed that a couple of the clamps/brackets that hold the line to the body are broke. I may have to zip tie them in place until I can get the correct clamps/brackets. Thanks so much for your response as well. I spent hours reading on this forum last night about things that I need to address before winter hits.

My PS line had a leak as well, only it was not rubbing on anything. I think mine just deteriorated to the point where it started to leak. Given that yours is likely the original hose too, chances are good it will start leaking again in the not too distant future. My advise would be to just swap the whole thing out for a new one. Access is a bit of a challenge, but not too bad. I replaced mine with an aftermarket one.
