Whats the best way to remove the rubber type coating on the interior trim pieces before painting?

I've found this out accidentally... soak in hot water

Which piece are we talking about here? Like the dash and cluster trim?

yea cluster trim, console center pieces. they have a rubber like coating on them.

So that's what you're asking about. I hate that stuff and have been wondering what would take it off. The oldest son has that "crap" on the dash of his CTS too. I can't imagine what led GM to put that mess on/in their cars. Thanks Andrew, for the info on how to remove that stuff. - BC
