What can I do to get the most out of my fog lights?

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I've searched around and haven't found much on the topic.

The subject pretty much sums it up. I've got one good fog light bulb and one that's burned out.

What can I do to safely get more light output from these puppies? If there's anything I can do to boost their light output I'd like to find that out. I want to replace the bulb that's burned out, but if I'm looking at getting different bulbs entirely then I don't want to waste $10 on a basic Sylvania bulb just to replace it with something better.

Thanks in advance guys!

There are some members that don't like them but you can always go HID for the bulbs. Then there are some projectors on ebay. Should be able to get what you looking for for less then $100.

I wouldn't advise using HID without a projector housing. I run a 3000k HID and I LOVE them but I have projectors. The light disbursement from an HID without a projector lens is terrible and even worse for oncoming drivers.

If you install a projector fog light and and HID or LED you will have an intense amount of light output tuned to the area needed and not blind oncoming traffic.

Any bulb that has a higher output than stock is going to melt the lens. If you want more output, you'll have to replace the entire lamp assembly.

HIDs will blind people, and actually make it harder for you to see in bad conditions. And yeah, they'll melt the housing.

The fogs are more of an auxiliary/decorative light on these cars, as they are on almost all modern cars. Just put a clear halogen bulb in there if you want the most output in a safe way, both to the housings and yourself and others.

To increase your ability to see at night, you'll need to focus on upgrading your low beams with either some clear 9006 halogens, some HIRs, or a projector retrofit.

I've used these: http://www.autoanything.com/lights/69A1 ... aQodMmYAcw

They're a bit smaller than stock, and takes some fab work to install them. Being 55 watt, they light up the road better. Be sure to align them properly.

I seldom run my fogs, as I've found that using the 9012 HIR bulb provides enough light without them. You can read about them toward the bottom of the original post in this thread:

If you're comfortable with some wire splicing….

Whitearrow3800 just did these on his car, hopefully he will post pictures of them soon. I'm considering it heavily now. Their output is quite nice.

I replaced the clear halogen Fog Light lamps with yellow ones. They seem to work quite well, but I'm guessing not as good as the Morimoto. - BC

Thanks for all of the input everyone!

I'd really like to put some HIR bulbs in my lows, but I want to know the most reliable place to get the true HIRs as opposed to the "new" HIR design, which I've heard doesn't have the same output as the originals.

the fog lights are not designed to give additional driving output. They are designed to be a low short and wide beam pattern.
