I just discovered this place up in Canada that sells smaller quantities of a butyl tape (Tremco brand) to the public. I have several door water deflectors that need to be re-sealed and I wasn't interested in trying to obtain this stuff by having a glass shop order it in for me. I'll order a few tubes of the Butyl caulk for sealing trunk leaks and the fuel filler compartment too. They accept PayPal also. I hope this info is useful to someone.

You need about 7 feet per door.

I haven't got a lot of faith in 3M stuff anymore, too many instances of poor performance in my personal experiences. At any rate, maybe the sticky thread could be updated to reflect the easier sources. http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... 11470.html

I can vouch for that window weld. Used it for headlights too. It stays sticky forever and is immensely strong. Just clean the surface before applying.

Thanks, maybe I'll have to give it a try then.

Also, I was able to make two rolls last me for 4 door water shields, 2 head lights, and various miscellaneous fastening of objects in the car and at home. You can roll it between your hands like play dough and it will stretch out but remain sticky.

For the door water shields, I cleaned both the surface of the door and the shield with goo gone and a razor. Followed that up with rubbing alcohol and my door water shields feel like I can hang off of them. Hahaha!

That stuff comes in 3/8", 5/16", and 1/4" diameter. Any reason 1/4" wouldn't work as well? Is there that much gap to fill that it wouldn't be sufficient? A roll of 1/4" is $11.27 vs $17.67 for 3/8".

I've found that if you stretch the 3/8" stuff you can almost double its length and still have plenty of sealing power.

Wow! Great link to the thread. The thread from April 2009 answers a lot of question for me. Thanks for posting the link! - BC

In high school the group I hung out with at breaks stood under a bell. I took some of that 3m stuff from installing the windshield in my 73 Olds Omega and stuck it inside the bell. Turned the ear piercing ring to a nice clack. No more ringing ears at the end of break. I'll bet it's still like that some 11 years later too.

You can also get it from a local glass company or commercial glass installer. They are usually willing to sell an entire roll for cost or smaller amounts. That is where I have always sourced what I needed from.
