trans possible slipping

Hello everyone, I just joined the club. I need help to troubleshoot a transmission that may be slipping. On overdrive and I accelerate the car and I revs to about 2500 rpms before the car starts to move while on the road it drives fine. Are there any tips. Thanks

You could try removing the transmission pan and replacing the filter, as well as flushing and replacing the fluid. I don't think you necessarily need a new transmission, and the parts for this are less than 20 bucks, so it's worth a shot. Does it take a while to go into gear when it's really cold? Does it slip especially around curves? If you answered yes to either of these two, try the filter and fluid change first!

I disagree with that. Fluid and filter for less than $20? Show me where you can get 8 qts of fluid and a filter for $20.
If the fluid smells burnt and is dark, the clutches are worn and there is no hope for it.
If the fluid is still bright pink, new fluid isn't going to help slipping.

Sounds like the trans is dying. A change of fluid won't help, and a flush will likely make it die completely. If you really wanna push your luck, put some Lucas Stopslip in the trans. Might make it be a little better, but as Andrew mentioned, it might be time for a new one entirely.

Thanks everyone. I kind of had that feeling. I own a 93 Bonneville and was proud of it. It gave out at 310000 miles on original engine and trans. Am looking forward to repairing this one.

I swear by Lucas Stop Slip. It's pretty much the best thing ever. I've bought my fair share of $400 cars to fix up. Lucas is one of the first things I do.
The 95 Bonneville I have now was pretty poorly maintained by the previous owner. When I got it, he was using it every day and it was 2 quarts low on transmission fluid. That's 1 qt fluid, and 1 bottle of Lucas. It hasn't slipped since. (although, it may have just been slipping because it was low on fluid)
At this point it wouldn't hurt to add it. It may save you from having to drop a bunch of money on a trans right away.
