Hello Everyone,
So I am thinking about undertaking the task of changing my water pump. My question is, do I have to remove this motor mount?

The picture might be a little big, but it's the best I can do. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

It looks like more work than it really is. You will have to support the engine to get it out.

Afraid so, at least that is how I've always done it.

So this means I follow the support with wood on a jack while removing, keep supported until new water pump is in? I'm more scared I'm going to botch something, and then either have a more expensive repair, or toast something that is too expensive to replace.

As long as you don't try to lift the car by the oil pan you should be fine. If you have the right tools for the job and don't rush you should be fine. And if you run into any snags along the way we can help.

Once you remove the mount, it becomes much easier, the space really opens up. You will have no issues. I once changed a S1 water pump with a couple friends in a Subway parking lot in 3 hours, including 2 trips to advance cause the reman pump that was given to us had a cracked housing.

Also make sure you separate the mount too, that will likely be the easiest way for everything. It's essentially 2 pieces bolted together.

When I've done this, I have to remove the center bolt holding the two together, remove the bolts holding the mount to the block, the two on the top of the frame side mount, and loosen the two underneath (note, the bottom two are slotted so the frame half of the mount can slide up and off if you loosen them). Then jack the engine up just a little bit on the passenger side enough to get wiggle room to get the engine half of the mount out of the way. I can't remember if removing the water pump pulley first allowed better wiggle room.

Just to keep everyone updated, I chickened out and forked over the $199 to have it done. The way that motor mount-motor mounting looks like it's connected to the block just had me wigged out. Not to mention, it's my only car, so if I can't do something over a weekend, I'm screwed. Thanks for yalls help.
