Stuck in drive
2005 GXP will not shift out of drive or neutral. Had no brake lights. Replaced both brake light switches. Now have brake lights but still cant get out of drive. Any ideas before I decide to take into GM?

Re: Stuck in drive
Shift lock actuator in the center console.
Provided you don't have a faulty switch (there should only be one), it is testing the circuit to that switch for voltage (which it sounds like it has if it is illuminating the brake lights. That means a circuit is closing, supplying voltage). Then check the harness at the switch for intermittent connection issues, then check the harness at at the solenoid for the same.
Eliminating that (as I bet that all checks out based on the fact you're getting voltage and the fact that you can't push the button itself), I would look at the shift lock actuator in the center console.

Re: Stuck in drive
Gear selector button broke; broken piece of the button was jammed inside the handle. Will need to replace the handle and/or the button. Thanks for the input.

Re: Stuck in drive
On my '92, it was the spring behind the button on the handle. Had to go to the JY and get a Sunfire shift knob. That's all they had. - BCSEPEDIGO wrote:Gear selector button broke; broken piece of the button was jammed inside the handle. Will need to replace the handle and/or the button. Thanks for the input.

Re: Stuck in drive
I have a spare GXP shift knob. The metal finish is pretty rough but it works.
