I currently own a 2003 chevy Silverado

and I am looking at buying a Bonneville SSEI but I need to know alittle more about them before I can. I am going to keep my truck because with my job I have a have something to go to work in snow storms because level 3 storms don't apply to me. but with it being a v8 its a gas sucker. I work at 4 different locations from the closest being 20 mintues to the farthest being almost an hour away and would like something a little better on gas on non snowy days.
I am looking at getting a 2002 Bonneville SSEI with 80,xxx miles on it, one owner that is an older couple. I have never owned a supercharged vehicle although I have owned a couple 3.8 v6 grand prix and absolutely loved them.
so what I want to know is how it the gas mileage? what are the pros and cons of the Bonneville SSEIs? would it be worth buying a second vehicle for the gas mileage difference? thank you all

Welcome.
There's a common problems thread in the 2000-2005 section that you should look at.
Fuel economy depends on your driving, lots of stop and go with traffic and mid teens are the be expected. All open road high twenties, possibly dipping into the low thirties can be achieved.

Glad you joined us. A Bonneville with 80,000 miles is almost new. I believe the super-charger oil needs to be changed every 50,000 miles also. If you're mechanically inclined, you will probably be able to do that yourself. - BC

Funny, I have a Bonneville and hoping to replace it with a Silverado. Looking at an 03 to be exact.
You'll definitely see a huge improvement in gas mileage. Don't forget though, the supercharged Bonnie's need the 93 octane gas. Where I live, that runs about 30 cents more per gallon then the regular stuff.
As an alternative to buying the Silverado, I considered (and am still considering just swapping in a supercharged motor into my Bonnie. I did the math as far as gas mileage and I think the Bonnie, even with the 93 gas, still wins out economically.
Off topic, are you on a forum for your truck? Looking to find a good one to start geting some info on my pending future purchase

Thanks for the tip on the forum. I'll check them out. You're welcome about the gas thing, jsut wanted to make sure you made a well informed decision.
Like I said, I'm sure you'll still save overall, but financially, maybe not as much as you think.

yeah if im goin to buy a second vehicle i want to be saving noticeable amounts of gas. especially if im putting another car on my insurance. the only thing that made me really want it is i love the engines and always have wanted a supercharged 3.8 and the low miles and its super clean
