hey guys i was wondering if anybody else had this problem before.I went to the car wash the other day and as i was sitting in line with the car running the guy in front of me needed to back up,so i put my car in reverse to give him room. And as i did this the car moved as normal, but when i put it back in drive to go forward it went BACKWARDS and i thought for a second i had it in

the wrong gear so i looked down to make sure and low and behold it was in drive so hit the gas and it still went backwards, then i put it in (n) same result (p) same result then i shut the car off to restart it (nothing) the dang thing would not start back up.

Sounds like the shifter cable came off the transmission.

Yea, that would be the nuetral safety switch not allowing it to start again.
Could be the cable as mentioned above (either off the trans or out of adjustments), could also be a bad shifter assembly sending the wrong (or no), signal to the BCM. Not sure how fancy ours was as I never faced that problem, but some GM's have very tempermental prox switches in the shifter assembly that when they go south, can generate issues or DTC's and error messages (Shift to Park is a common one).

If you have any mechanical knowledge at all, putting the shifter cable back on would be a 1 minute job. Just look directly below the brake booster and see if its attached. If not, pop it back on, it just snaps into place.
