96 versus 97

96 versus 97? I've asked before no one seemed to know. But I read it some where. I've had 2 96's and 2 97's! The 96's both shift and ride better! Any input?

What are you comparing here? 1996 SE to 1997 SE. They should be pretty much identical. Aside from your options in suspension FE1 or FE2 (not sure if that was even an option on the SE?) And you may notice a little difference in the gear ratio 2.84 vs 3.06 depending what your cars had.
Otherwise it was just previous maintenance of the vehicle, different replacement parts, etc.

I can't recall the exact year, but gm moved from the 4t60e to the 4t65e right in that range

Ar the 96 and 97 bonneville NA or SC? As well the PCM's are different in terms of control and smarts... 96 PCM is pretty stupid the 97 Is a world ahead...
The 96 does not have the power to control the car/engine in the way the 97 does, so in a nutshell the 97 PCM can hold you back more... The 96 PCM holds you back as well but not to the same level the 97 PCM does...
In the 97's dumbing down the torque management makes the car more drivable( more fun to drive ).. as well some minor changes to the shift RPM's and the kick down tables.. so there are differences...
so an example for you would be like this
92-93 is the older PCM slowish but it worked, 94-95 was much better and was a transition into OBD2, 96( full OBD2) PCM is as smart as a 94-95 PCM... The 97 is in its own world... 98 Improved yet again.....lol

His 96's are se and his 97's are sse's so that explains the ride difference.
