Tensioner pulley

I changed the waterpump on the car today, and was putting everything back together, and put the belt on and everything and the tensioner was working fine. I was able to get the belt on but it was a little off on the idler pulley, when I went to loosen the belt to adjust it on the pulley, the bolt just kept spinning like its stripped. but just 20 seconds before that, it was tight as hell and worked fine. Is this something where I have to replace the entire tensioner unit? or is there some other piece I can change thats cheaper or can I just run it as is?

Best to change entire tensioner with ac delco unit not aftermarket.
