Which do you prefer; ceramic, carbon metallic, carbon fiber? and why. Thanks, BC

They have carbon fiber pads now? O.O

Ceramics offer the best bite, and supposedly little dust if you get the right ones.

My Hawk ceramics dust like crazy though. Looks like a german luxury car. :P

I just tried the raybestos brakes. I got the rotors front ceramic pads and rear ceramics. It's been about 1k miles and they're still great. Also seem to have low dust, especially compared to the Wagner ceramics I had on there previously.

Higher end ceramic pads are my choice for good bite and low dust. Be careful you don't go too far on the performance spectrum if you're looking to avoid dust, such as the Hawks that Carl has, but this tends to ring true for all pad materials. Expect the cheap stuff to not perform as well and dust more at the same time. Raybestos Advanced Technology or Akebono ProACT are my top picks. Go with the one you can find for cheaper.

The first two sets of pads lasted 100k each (OEM - Carbon Metallic, replacement Ceramic), third set was ceramic too, but for some reason 1 pad wore out prematurely. The third replacement pads are ceramic and might make it 100k also. I have been very happy with the ceramic pads I've used. I have been reading a little about carbon fiber pads. The claim is they are the best. Just trying to find out if anyone knew about them. - BC

I'll second the Raybestos Advanced. I have a feeling that's all I'll be running from now on.
