Crankshaft position sensor upgrade possibility

I've read that some of the later 3800s use a non-adjustable CPS. Do they use the same connection as the old adjustable type and do they have the same sized/gapped harmonic balancer? If so, would it be possible for the older 3800s to upgrade to the non-adjustable type?

There has been no shortage of colorful invective here today. I have tried about a dozen times to get my CPS adjusted and it will not cooperate. I bought a BWD from ORLY's which may have been mistake #1. Anyway, it's as if the mounting bracket and/or the sensor itself are crooked because no adustment of the sensor doesn't hit the balancer.
My old CPS bracket bit the dust too - after many failed attempts with the bracket that came with the new sensor, I decided to try the old bracket and busted it in the process.

I don't think there are an "upgrade" to the CPS. The hole for the CPS has a certain tolerance so that it can move about when the front cover is made so it won't be identical between different parts, that's why the adjustment is needed.
When I did mine on the 88, which I believe is the same, I just installed the sensor then put the balancer back without the key and rotated it back and forth a bit to ensure it wasn't catching. I managed to get it on the first try no problem. Just go and relax for a bit and come back to it when you have calmed down and don't want to just set the car on fire.
p.s. I think i got the BWD and mine has been fine for about 30,000 miles.
