HVAC odd issue

The HVAC system in the SSEi doesn't really keep up in terms of airflow. It comes out of the vents, but takes a while to cool the car down.
That is until I open the glove box. Once the glove box is open, the whole cabin feels like a monsoon and it's cold in minutes.
Am I missing something here? The vents on the glove box door are not blocked. How is the glove box being open having any effect on the airflow in the system?

Every 92-99 I've been in has had lackluster airflow. :/
That being said, opening the glove box does certainly make the vents feel stronger.

I had removed and cleaned all the HVAC air ducts. So I don't think it's that. I do find it odd that this isn't an isolated case of an odd issue. I didn't know there was a way to make the '93 recirculate?

on some models recirculate is labeled max and AC for normal fresh air cooling and heating. i suppose their design logic would be to use the max or recirc mode to cool the inside sooner by recooling cooled air whereas cooling fresh air is a slower process but probably more healthy. just guessing.
edit: i am looking at a 92 GP service manual. your vehicle ECC controls may be different.

My 96 has a RECIRC button. It helps a ton. I feel the same about the airflow. If you find an improvement I'll be happy to hear of it.

my '96 sounds like a tornado on high but has very weak air flow. my son also has a '96 and his medium blows harder than my high and with out all of the noise. the only difference between his and mine is his has the digital control. i would also love to know the cause of the problem.

Honestly, I dont have the vent in glovebox factor, but it sounds like a great way to keep my drinks cold.

Still doesn't explain how opening the glove box makes such a dramatic difference in airflow.

Unless the deflectors in the vent are shut or broken.

I have a similar INTERMITTENT problem with my 2001 SSEi. At times, little to NO air will come out of the vents and other times, everything is good. I played with recirculation and fresh-air controls, different modes, checked the cabin filter to no avail.
Is there a electronic vacuum control valve under the dash or in the engine-bay that could be periodically malfunctioning??? Winter will be here soon and I want to make sure the climate controls are good for defrost and heating during the cold months.
The blower fan works fine, and I can hear the actuators moving between all the mode selections which is great.
Can someone tell me what the issue is here? I'd prefer not to resort to disassembling the dash and chasing a whole bunch of dead ends.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The car is a daily driver and cannot be on downtime long :S
