what is that weight for attached to right side motor mount?

Probably a mass damper to quell a certain frequency or vibration. Sure you could run without, but you may notice it under certain conditions. Leave it on if you can.
I may have to add a stick on tire weight to the G8's engine/trans mounts to take care of some vibration I get under cylinder deactivation mode on the highway.

I took mine off. Car still runs.
