The factory alarm on my '96 SE went off twice last night. After it went off the first time, I went out and made sure that the hood, trunk, and doors were all closed. It seemed fine, but three hours later the honking horn woke me up again.

From that thread, it sounds like it might be either a faulty door, hood, or trunk switch. Short of eliminating one switch at a time, is there a way to tell which switch is triggering the alarm? Does the system store any information about what switch sets it off?

The alarm has gone off twice since my first post. Both times in the middle of the night, which I'm sure my neighbors love. I'm manually locking the car now so the alarm doesn't arm itself. I hate just throwing parts at the car and hoping I fix the problem. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to diagnose this?

Still having the same issue. I'm wondering if it is temperature related as the alarm doesn't go off during the day -- only late at night. It doesn't seem to matter if I use the remote or lock the door manually. I'm sure my neighbors love me.

I wanted to post an update to this thread, since I finally solved the problem. I started locking the doors manually to keep the alarm from arming. The next week the power door locks malfunctioned. They would unlock with the lock button and remote, but would not lock with either. I pulled the Body Control Module and the VATS module, cleaned their connectors, put it all back together, and it has worked fine since. It looks like the problem was caused by a loose connection, which is strange because I don't think the dash has ever been apart. Anyway, I thought I should post the solution in case anyone else runs into the same problem.
