First month owner ship 2 tickets

Post by bobjones003 »

So this last month was the 1st month of ownership for Bville. Got two tickets for speeding. A week part the First one was second week ownership. Got pulled over for speeding 85 in 70. The second was same. I blame the car I drove before my parents old 08 Dodge Cailber 2.0l. That car was always so loud past 60ish. Nothing wrong with just slight under powered motor. Ie at 70 it is at about 2800 rpm. My Bville I think turns around 1600rpm. Then it so quite the car makes very little noise at what ever speed I drive it. That car has 90,000 more miles on it and it it is 03. I very impressive with my car build quality so far. Rule now is use the cruise control more often.

I have found in my older age that there really is no reason to go more than 5mph over(what most cops give ya). Especially in the truck, the difference in MPG is pretty significant from 55 to 70mph.

I learned my lesson the first time - 88 in a 55, which equaled a $220 ticket (money I did not have at the time). I was trying to prove a point to a guy riding my bumper. Huge mistake, and it actually made me look like the idiot.

Now, you'll never see me more than 3-5mph over on the interstate. In town, dead on with the speed limit.

When you drive big-ass SUVs with thirsty V8's you won't have to worry much about speeding tickets.

Yeah that is what I learned to use cruise control on the highway almost all the time. I should set it lower then what I general set it. General I set 7-8 mph over the speed limit.

In my old '94 Bonneville, I got pulled over for passing someone doing 72 in a 55. Granted it was memorial day (weekend), I'm sure the cop just wanted a bonus and pulled me over for the heck of it. The main reason I stepped on it though, was I'd rather pass the person the first time than pulling back behind them to let oncoming traffic go by and then try and pass again. Apparently the judge doesn't care if it's your first offense or not, still got the 175 dollar fine. =(

This. If you're doing 10 over or more, then you're asking for it and have no place to complain. In almost 15 years of driving, I've never gotten pulled over for doing up to 5 over. What really irritates me is the freeway part of my commute goes from a 70mph zone all the way to 45 as you approach downtown St Paul. Everyone does 60 in the 45, then goes 65 in the 55, then goes 65 when they drive past the 70mph sign (and I'm trying to downshift and open the throttle...)

Not to sound like a crotchety old man... He was merely doing his job, if there was no enforcement, people would drive whatever they feel like. You were most likely breaking the law, as IIRC most states have a 10mph leeway for passing on a single lane highway, but YMMV. Limits are there for a reason, not just based on driver skill/equipement, but also what could jump out infront of you, etc. I smoked a deer driving under the 55mph limit in my parent's solstice, but because of the terrain it was impossible for me to see it. I could have easily been cruising through the curves I was approaching over 100, but there's no real point to that.

Doing motorsports events really help keep things in check speedwise, I'll still have fun getting up to speed or around corners, but I don't see the point in going 100+ in any built up area. ... Now near Ed's place that's a different story

Yeah, but how many people do you actually know that pass people within the speed limit? I know absolutely nobody. I was merely passing a guy doing 50 in a 55, and I was going to immediately slow down to 60 after I got around. I know not to do more than 10 over anywhere, or else you get caught easily. I keep it 5 over everywhere I go, and had no troubles yet. The officer could have at least told me to keep the speed down and gave me a verbal or written warning. If it wasn't for it being a holiday, that probably would have happened.

IDK he did his job. Speeding is speeding and they dont have to give a cushion if they dont want to. Just mark it up to a lesson!

I have gotten out of a bunch of things because I swallowed my pride and was respectful to the officer.

I didn't say much other than where I was going. Then he took my license, and registration and walked back to his undercover truck. 15 minutes later came back and said I had gotten a ticket. I said nothing more than a few words, so there would be no reason to piss him off. I am dead certain he was getting his quota and bonus in.

I am not mad at police offices he was just doing the job. In truth I broke my 10 mph rule. But 12 mph 2nd. The other one was was exactly 10 but that was on chicago drive in zeeland speed limit is 55 that ,which in that area is really just asking to get pulled over. Yes I do use my curses control more now. After I have completed couple normal maintance things for milage the car only drives smoother and quieter. Makes it easier to speed.
