Steel brake lines

The other day a couple of my brake lines started leaking, already got one fixed. Anyhow while bending the new line I was wondering why in the hell they don't just make all the lines rubber or braided steel out of the factory? I mean it's rubber by the caliper and braided steel up by the master cylinder, then the rest is that garbage steel shyt probably made in china
. I'm sure its a cost issue but it's just something I've been pondering the last two days

The GXP has small sections of braided steel line here and there near both the master cylinder and the EBCM. I'm pretty sure it's stock.

Rubber line would be a lot easier to get torn by road debris, and it swells and restricts fluid, as well as that length of rubber hose would turn into a giant balloon and cause hugely spongy brakes even OEM. Steel is cheap, durable and holds pressure well, it's just that it rusts if it's not properly cared for...

@ repin- Yea my bonnie has the same two little 4 inch sections of the braided line (for flex while driving I guess).
@ beast- Good insight. Steel is pretty cheap but brass sure isn't. Had to buy two unions today for like $3.50 a piece at Oreillys. Talk about a rip off! lol

Rip off - the same brass unions are at autozone for $3 a pair..

Or probably $.30 at a Fleet and Farm place, LOL.
