So today I rethought my CAI setup...cheapy I bought from Advance(30-40bones) and had to fab up a wall...

A lil cold air directioning...

now had I done it the way I have it now when I first bought the kit there wouldnt be nearly as much tubing as there is now, there would have been a nice smooth aluminum tube for most of the intake run, I had to do a fair amount of chopping through my Research and Development AND I wouldnt have had to fab up a wall setup to keep the heat away. Just thought this would give people another idea to a better setup of a BUDGET minded CAI/FWI. Also, the tubing isnt TOO bad as far as the inside ridges, the real key is getting it stretched out a bit to pull it smoother.
PCM tray gets installed Tomorrow...

Dont mind the shiny-ness, I was cleaning out the inside....

Very Nice!!!

How does it sound compared to stock box? Did you buy the tube from a major store? what size cone fits down there?

Thanks cant wait to see the tray... :beerchug:

seems like that is going to be some seriously turbulent airflow. Cooler, but turbulent.

I'm not real sure how much good your actually doing. You still have the stock rubber tube, which isnt very good for laminar flow if i remember correctly. You also are switching from tube, to pipe, to tube again. Seems like there will be ridges where the 3 peices meet and effect flow. Yes you do have the filter and makeshift box(and what is that made out of? heat resistant?), but how much are you spending for the misc. parts at autozone? How much time is it going to take to finish everything? Seems to me like saving up and buying the Intense kit would be more functional, look better, and not leave you wanting to upgrade the CAI again knowing that the Intense kit is out there. Besides that, great job on getting out there and trying to fab it up.

Turbulant....probably. Flowing better than stock box and looking a lil less hokey than the CAI.....definatly. I have spent the $40 bucks for the kit(which included the aluminum tube, which was like 18" long initially, and would have made it most of the way to the corner for a smoother run, like 2' of flex tube, some couplers/clamps, etc.) and another $30 for the K&N. The other misc stuff I got from work or I had in the garage. So a total of $70 and another $14 for the PCM tray. When I first got the car I didnt have the dough for the Intense stuff so I went cheap and used my hands. IDK, for what it is I think it does a pretty *dang* good job. Im not running 11s and 12s, nor do I have ANY other mods for that matter so Im not TOO worried about a lil turbulance, and I put my MAF screen back in. And anyways the stock rubber neck is, well stock, and free, so at least it not hurting anything. I have too many initial bugs to work out before I Mod anyfurther.

:thumbsupfornotbuyingyourstuffandmakingityourself:

My air flow was turbulent all the way into the 12's

After the intake it goes through SC vanes or through a 90 deg bypass port that is interupted into the flow of the SC housing itself, Confusious say: don't swat flies, clean up the poop

I'd say you're better off with a gutted stock airbox. You kept the worst part of the system (accordian tube) and added more turbulence with that tubing.

I admire your willingness to fabricate on your own, but you need to go after smooth laminar flow.

Does anyone have windtunnel results from INTENSE tubing, this accordian tube, a stock air box and other things?

Not that I'm aware of, but the basic rules apply. Flow goes up when turbulence goes down.

Doesn't the screen in the front of the throttle body straighten out the flow before the supercharger? I thought that was it's purpose.
