So I've been tossing around the idea of plastidipping my bent 5's for the winter. What say you guys? Yea or nay?
I mean I can always peal the stuff off, so no bent 5's will be harmed in the making of this project.

Try one and see if you like. If you don't pull it off, mentioning of wheels I've thought about doing the 20's plastidipped.
Keir: it's basically a thin plastic, but durable coating that you can spray from paint can, aerosol etc. a guy on YouTube plastidipped his entire Audi.

I guess if you want black 5 spokes for winter wheels, go for it! lol Like you said, you can always just pull it back off...

Give it a try, I just did mine about a week ago. Only took one can. Worst case if you don't like them, you're only out $7.

A lot of hand tools have their handles dipped with plastidip

My initial concern was the longevity of the product. Also, as it ages, would it start pulling away, giving a way for crap to accumulate behind it? Not counting what wheel weights would do to it.

On any aluminum or chrome rim,IMO, there should NEVER be weights on the outside lip. Looks tackey.

I'm all for static balancing or if you don't like static balancing, stickey weights just inside of the outter part of the rim.

I did mine a couple months ago, it would make a great protective layer in the winter. However, clean your rims ridiculously well with some degreaser. The 20 spokes have a sort of divot that runs along inside the edge of the rim and the dip has separated and lifted up off those parts. It's pretty durable but won't stick well for long if your rims aren't super clean. Brake dust will turn the front rims a weird brick-like red color, so ceramic pads would be a good idea.

To the guy who only used on can: was that for each wheel or all of them? You gotta put on more than a few coats, one can for four wheels won't be enough.

I heard that 2 cans should suffice for rims like sawblades since they don't have too many nooks and crannies.

I managed three coats on all the wheels with one can.

Ohhhhh so it's plasti-spraying, not dipping.

It's hard to tell if the 20 spokes have more surface area than bent 5's. Sure, there's a lot more spokes but they're much smaller. But you can't forget all the surfaces on the side of each spoke that need coverage too. So 20 spokes might need more cans.

I removed my rims, did 3 coats on the back face of each spoke (so the dip on the front sticks better around the sharp corners to the back) and the inside of the entire rim. The entire wheel is dipped black, inside and out. Full can for each wheel.

I wouldn't skimp and go lightly with the 'Dip, more layers=better. It's super cheap and if you end up with extra, you can dip other, non-car related things. I Plasti-Dipped my iPhone sync cable.
