Resolution for engine noise!! Finally

Post by beachbum »

I submitted a question way back in 2008 that went like this: "I get the same noise like a bearing going bad (a whine) but mine only occurs when driving the car at around ... if you lift up on the gas, the noise goes away. There is no noise if you rev the engine when it is in park. It only seems to happen when the engine is under load."

I thought it was the supercharger so I replaced it but the noise still didn't go away. I checked everything I could think of. Finally, I had to take the car in to have the transmission rebuilt (since I'm not an expert at transmissions) and found out that my issue was the CV joint the whole time. Apparently, the grease was completely gone and it was causing the noise, specifically when torque was applied, ie: when the engine is under load. So once the CV joint was replaced, the noise is finally gone.

Sorry for the delayed post but I felt I needed to update anyone who may have the problem in the future. Thanks for all the great help on this site.

Thanks for letting us know you fixed your problem (eventually :) ).

And well done finding a transmission shop that diagnosed your problem and didn't try to rip you off.
What's the name of the shop?, someone else in the area might want to use a good honest service.

Roger.

Glad to hear it, those mysteries drive me nuts as well. Mt. Pleasant? I lived in North Charleston for 5 years up until about a 1.5 years ago...small world.

The name of the transmission shop was AAMCO. They did a great job on rebuilding the transmission and since they had to pull the transmission for service, they only charged me for the part price of the CV joint.

Sorry to see you leave this area! I was born in Charleston but moved around quite a bit. Decided to move back home 16 years ago and still love the area. We try to keep it a secret but the population is still growing with people from the north moving in. We enjoy all of them but we don't want it to get too big.
