Gauge cluster issues(?)

My 02 SSEi has a light burnt out in the speedo from 80mph to 120mph. I know that there are a few topics on here about how to change the lights, but isn't there a great deal of risk in removing the needles? I've been told that a lot of times, the motor for the needles pops out with the needle rendering the gauge cluster useless. I don't want to have to change the cluster because I would like to keep the mileage correct on the vehicle.

Also, I hear a weird hissing/ticking sound from somewhere inside the cabin when accelerating. I haven't really narrowed it down much but it sounds like it's coming from either the dash or the driver door panel. Any people with common problems here or possibly a solution? It would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I took a picture of my dashboard so I had an idea of where the needles needed to be with the ignition off and the one with the ignition on. That way I could calibrate it. I used a fork to lift the needles off. After fixing the bulb I reinstalled the dash with out the plastic shield so that I could adjust the needles if need be. Once I was all done I put the plastic shield back on face. hope this helps good luck

Don't you have to solder the bulb? I have very very little experience in soldering.

You will have to solder them in. If your not very good at it I would recommend taking the dash to maybe an electronics repair shop such as (tv/vcr repair) if there is any left. Maybe even a computer repair, just somebody who is good with electronic soldering. Where are you located? Some members may be able to help if they are local.

If you msg harrowfreak I know he does soldering repairs for the radios and other electronics in cars. His information is under the for sale forum. His information is the very first listing. You may be able to work something out with him.

Or you could go to a local radio shack buy a soldering iron and attempt it your self. Its not really that hard, let the iron heat up then hold it to the legs of the light bulb using tweezers to lift the old bulb off the board. De-soldering braid will help to get rid of the excess solder when you are trying to remove the old light bulb. At radio shack you can mach up the light bulb ($2). insert the new light bulb into the board with the iron hot, add new solder to the legs then let it cool. make sure you don't have to much solder where it connects the 2 legs together they will short out. The 2 legs need to remain separated. I would believe if you searched how to solder in google, something should pop up.

or take it to a local electronics repair if you would like. good luck
