ok andrew found an egr code while i was at his place and yesterday i started the car and instantly the light came on. drove to orielys and plugged an ob2 and it was p0401 i believe it said something about exhaust gas recirculation. I pulled the egr to half off now and it seems fine, so now what. lol

i should really spell check.. My update is i took the egr off and cleaned it with carb cleaner and toothbrush as well as the in and out pipes as good as i could without pulling them off as i will prob do that when the headers show up. I took the car for a drive tonight and no codes yet.

For some reason i feel this is related to a vaccum problem. I broke the vaccum connection to the "t" on the top front of the motor a while back and had to replace it with a smaller non oem "t" and fitting. I have thrown a few codes relating to vac and wonder if this could still be causing some problems. Andrew said he thought it would be fine though, so it's either egr like it says or maybe map. I have no clue...

If the inlet or outlet pipes are clogged, or dirty, it could cause the problem. For as much as you could see, how did those look? A partially plugged, or kinked vacuum hose going to the MAP could as cause the code. As could a bad MAP. Did the EGR look overheated at all?

maybe a bit dirty but i am leaning more towards vaccum lines and map. I am just going to order the vac lines from the map all the way to the fuel reg. intense has the whole thing new for $35. I will prob also just grab a new map sensor if that does not fix the problem. Thanks archon

If those things above check out, it could maybe be the vapor canister solenoid under the car. These are not hard or expensive to replace, and often need to be replaced on our cars after 125K or so.

drove the car to the zoo today and got the usual p0401 and also a p0402 now. i have looked over most of the vac lines and egr. i sprayed a ton of carb cleaner under the hood aiming at the egr and vac lines with no success at finding a problem. I have not replaced anything except got a used egr from haro with no success so far. without braking the bank replacing things i don't need to what things would you guys replace first lol

Where is the EGR valve located?

dashawn1234 the egr is located on the drivers side of the engine next to the tb. it has a connector on top and a tube going to the intake manifold and another going to the rear header.
