Engine stumble at startup

2002 Pontiac Bonneville SE with 178,000 miles. Just recently the car has started acting up. Ive noticed the engine stumbling on startup after I have driven it and reached operating temperature. It seems to do it more when the nose of the car is pointing up on an incline than flat. It spits and sputters a little, if I give it gas slightly and wait a couple seconds it will catch and up and the idle will smooth out. Once it calms down, it drives perfect with no noticeable problems. I had one instance about four days ago, where it took me about 6 tries to get it to start...only time it did that.

Any ideas on where I should start looking. Only dash lights on ae the trac lok, ABS, and Brake. No check engine light on.

Thanks in advance. I rely heavily on this car and want to fix this before it becomes a problem.

I would start with checking the fuel pressure. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed?

Have you had any trouble figuring out what is going on? I am having very similar problems. Any suggestions would be appreciated....

my 2000 SSEi makes a pinging at startup. sounds horrible. if you turn it off and restart it is no longer there. sometimes gotta restart several times before it stops
