A town about 50 miles from me puts on a excellent demo derby every summer. Usually 70-80 cars each year. They also have a six cylinder class, which is my favorite. Here are some pics of the six cylinder class from 2011.

Poor Bonneville made like one hit and it died I can think of people who would have loved to have the wheels on that one.



Also DO NOT do this to a Park Ave, they clearly don't hold up well.

A healthy looking Delta 88 with pink painted wheels. This was a female driver, the car pooped on her sadly. The Gold Monte and Chevy Inter-Corsica made hard contact in this picture too.


A fairly totalled Buick Century and a Chevy Celebrity. The Century took second place oddly enough. And the driver let his wife drive it again later in the Powder Puff where she duked it out with full size cars! Amazingly strong little 3100 v6 in that Buick!

Wow, there were some there I would have liked to have had... Bonneville and Monte to begin with... if I'm not mistaken those are Z34 rims on it...

We have some of these local too and I really enjoy going to watch the destruction. I agree that some of the cars are too nice to end this way...but its interesting to see how well they hold up! Always like to see a GM come out on top, even if it's not a 3800....

I remember when it was illegal to run Chrysler Imperials in demo derby's. I think it still is in some areas. The mid 70's full size Chevy's were the ones that were highly sought after. I knew guys that would drive down to Arizona just to get a rust free Impala to destroy in a demo derby. I'm surprised how long the newer cars survive with all of the safety systems and crumple zones that they have.

They have mini van class here at the county fair. By far the most popular class. Fun to watch. Alot of chrysler mini vans out there to use.
Compact car class always seems to be alot of Cavalier and Corsica.
Always a good time.

Looks like a lot of fun. I used to enjoy being taking to see banger racing by my dad when I was a kid. Not quite the same thing as a demo derby - it's a dirt circuit race - but contact is encouraged and most of the cars end up undriveable.
