Security System

Post by Silver Bullet »

Every once and a while my service theft system light comes on. It doesn't come on every time I start my car it just randomly comes on. I haven't taken it in to the shop to have it looked at, but I was wondering what I could do myself if anything?

I think mine comes on for a little bit randomly when its cold out. after i drive the car and restart it seems to go away. my guess is it has something do do with the circut board for the theft system losing connection somewhere when it gets cold. Like some of my other GM's im sure there is a point or 2 somewhere that needs to be soldered to fix a faulty connection. It doesnt seem to cause any problems other then the Service Sec. System on the dash so i ignore it... ihave seen a couple other posts that say the same thing... personally i wouldnt worry about it unless it causes problems.

The gremlins do come out to play when the temperature goes down, and the service theft system is one of the common ones that pop up. Mine did it a couple of months ago, so I threw my scanner on it before shutting the car off. It came up with a few body codes that included problems with communications with the instrument panel module, and EPROM code errors. They were gone the next start.

The message on the DIC has come and gone a few times each winter for years, without problems.

The Gypssei experiences the same situation; the message comes up randomly, usually in wintertime, and goes back out again later. Never seems to affect anything.
