did some brake work, now the sss, abs and trac light comes on. the thing is if i turn the car off then right back on it goes off. any ideas?

You might have a faulty wss, if it comes back try to get a good computer scanner that can read abs codes, advance auto may have one.

Might have bumped or scraped a wheel speed sensor wire while doing the brake job. It is possible that a visual check will reveal a partially-damaged section that can be repaired with some electrical tape, or (if you're really lucky) just by jiggling it around a little.

Otherwise, I agree with what was written above: take it to an Advance Auto store and ask them to scan with a code scanner that can read brake codes. They will do this as a free courtesy service. If you do not have an Advance Auto nearby, you may have to take it to a repair shop and they will do it either for free or a nominal fee. (AutoZone and other chains do not currently scan brake codes; only OBDII codes, which are different.) If this confirms a wheel speed sensor problem, and you have looked at the wire on the indicated wheel, then it might be time to replace the wheel bearing (get a Timken, which costs around $100 but will last a lot longer than the cheaper brands). Shop around so that you are not charged more than around $100-105 for it. RockAuto.com is a good place to start (use our Club code to get 5% off).

One other thing are you also getting an ABS and Trac light? On my dad's Park Avenue he got the SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM for a bit. Ends up it was the steering wheel position sensor at the base of the column. Guy at the dealer said its a common problem on many cars of that age with stabilitrak. Part isn't so expensive but the labor is painful as the column must be removed.

I agree it could be the SWPS may be the problem but i would definalty check the Wheel speed sensors 1st, that is a easy fix to find. what exact brake work did you do, id your remove the hubs or any sensors? did you spray the wheel speed sensor with brake cleaner? but if it didnt happen untill you where down ther i bet its something came disconnected.. follow the wires from the wss to the body, there may be a 2nd connection.

Inspect the wiring and connections leading to the hubs.

after you shut the car off and start back up when it goes off, does it stay off or does it come on again after driving a short distance? if its getting low voltage (bad ground or bad battery) it could be the problem. My MC Z34 did the same thing.. found a bad ground... and now its happening alot more often, ended up also having a bad battery... (replaced Alt per a mechanic's daig... which was wrong and if you have ever seen a 3.4L DOHC alt it is not a easy/cheap job $550)
