Should I buy this GXP?

Post by white06lacrossecxs »

There's a 2005 GXP for sale at a local lot for 9500. Its fully loaded with 98k miles on it. Tires are brand new. Does this sound like a good deal? Is there anything I should be aware of when buying a GXP? The only thing I can tell is it looks like the sunroof dips in the back a bit. Dealer says its just an adjustment.

Pictures or a link to it would help. How's the condition of the body? What does the interior look like? Does everything work?

98k miles is a bit high for a GXP, and $9500 seems to be a relatively fair price.

Judging from the photos it looks in quite remarkable condition. I have no idea what these are worth in the US, but it looks like a sound car.

I have a GXP with about those miles and I say that's a fair price for the car, assuming everything is intact and working, and the exterior is just about flawless. Mine should be worth about the same right now. If anything is broken, shoot for lower. The production numbers for the GXP are ridiculously low, total production between 2004 and 2005 is definitely lower than any single year of SSEi. Because of this you will find prices fluctuating all over the place.

Should you buy it? I'm not so sure. I had the luxury of buying mine with only 10,000 miles on two brand new heads and a properly studded block (no head bolts!), done by the best Northstar guy in North America to do it. It's not so much the white curse as it is the Northstar itself. Great motor, LOTS of fun, but accept the fact that you will have to pay to maintain and repair it. You MUST have coolant changes done every two years, and working on anything surrounding the powertrain will be a lesson in creativity and colourful language - it's tightly packed in there! Though I suppose you may already know this if you have a Lacrosse CXS with the 5.3L V8.

Otherwise, you will face the same things as any 2000+ Bonneville owner. In the 15,000 miles and 10 months that I have owned mine, I do not regret it one bit.
