Automotive Wheel Design

Does anyone know where I can locate information on automotive wheel terms and wheel design. I know that offset refers to the location of the "spider" to the rim, but that's all. I don't know what any of the terms like 40mm offset means. I also don't know what "back spacing" means specifically, only in general. I have done searches and not had much success. I'm back to my 'old blind hog' routine again - ha ha. Thanks - BC

When a retailer gives the specifications on the offset of a rim and the offset is not noted as positive or negative, is it understood that the offset is positive unless it is stated that the offset is negative? Thanks. - BC
