the 225/60/16 General Altimax HP or 235/55/16 BF Goodrich Traction T/A.
i know the general's have a good rep on here, but i want a wider tire and the traction's have a much longer tread life than the generals.

This is what I have on mine. They ride really nice. Great in rain. Handle excellent.

I know Tirerack.com carrys these tires. Not the cheapest but I think their worth the money. I read some reviews on them that people were getting up to 60,000 miles out of them. Of course depends on driving.

Tire rack lists both in that 235/55 size, so if you want the general you can get them in that size also.. not the General tires are rated hire but are directional so yuo cannot cross rotate them, most likely why the miolage is less on them.

Just a personal note, ive never had a set of good year i liked. Kuhmo, dunlop, Continental, Michel., Fisk (actually where fricken awsome for $52 each) i have had and had no complaints. have Conti. Extreme contact DW on the Vette and DWS on the Bonnie. like them alot. the DWS are a little soft on the side walls more then i thought but still handle well and drive nice.

im leaning towards the generals too.
but is it really worth the extra money to buy the 235/55's over the 225/60's?

Youd said you wanted a wider tire. Is it worth it to you?

i would just be going with it for the look, but im on a tight budget. is it even a noticable diff in width? that online tire size calculator thing doesnt show it very well

went with the 225/60's generals, got them from tire warehouse. Asked for the H rated, but he only had the V-rated in stock so he gave them to me for the h-rated price, $95 a piece. good deal!!

I did the same on mine in regards to size. The 225's are very nice in the snow/winter driving. I have lots of grip, and more control than I ever did with 235's on.
The down side is that during the warmer months I can really feel the ruts in the road. The car tends to wander a bit due to this, and makes me question any possible additional wear on the front end parts. Doubt it though.
Conclusion: I might keep the 225's as winter tires, and get new 235's for the rest of the year due to the width.
I don't get how the 225's are cheaper though, they are not a common size tire at all. I get all my tires direct from a distributor, and when I checked prices last week 225's and 235's were the same price.

225 are common in 16" rim size, you have 17s

I can't say enough good things about the Altimax HP's. They've got about 35k on them and I expect them to make it over 50k.
Probably the best bang-for-the-buck tire in our size.

New tires will always tramline more than old ones, Usually wider ones will do it more, the 245 (VW) and 255 (BMW) autoX tires I have run this year have definitely been one to follow ruts and such.
I'd recommend the BFG after my experience with the old Traction T/A model. Most reviews make this a decision that's win or win however.

I have BFG Advantage T/A's on my car and they rock. They're quiet and grip really well. So I'd recommend those Tractions as well.
